Blog name: The Beauty of Life (http://www.thebeautyoflifeblog.com/)
Blogger's name: Jamie Allison Sanders
Please give us some background. When did you start your blog, and why? I started The Beauty of Life in January 2007. I had already been doing some beauty writing for some beauty publications, and really wanted to have any outlet to write in my own voice. I've always loved beauty, so it was a natural fit!
How many beauty products do you use to get ready on an average day? (Include shampoo, conditioner, soap, shaving, facial skin care, hair products and tools, makeup, lotions, etc.) It really depends on the day! When I'm traveling, I definitely tend to use a lot more skincare products to keep my skin hydrated and moisturized. But typically, I use the following: shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, styling creme, hair dryer, flat iron, moisturizer, serum, eye cream, body wash, lip balm, mascara, and lipgloss!
You can only use five beauty products (from the above parameters) to get ready today. What are they? Lip balm, moisturizer, eye cream, conditioner, flat iron.
Who was your first beauty icon, and why? Deborah Kerr. I saw her in The King and I when I was four years old, and I just thought she was so beautiful - especially in the ball gown she wears during the banquet. And I love her red hair!
What's one beauty trend you'd like to bring back from the past? To be honest, I feel like we're living in a time when anything goes and basically every beauty trend is still around in some form or another. I love the Farrah Fawcett hairstyle and think it's great that it's back in a more moderate form.
What's one beauty trend you'd like to see the end of? Slicked-back, wet-looking hair on top with dry hair hanging down the back. It's just not attractive or pretty.
What's the biggest challenge you face as a beauty blogger? Finding the time to blog can be a huge challenge! Since it's not my full-time job, I am often writing late into the night, early in the morning, or on the weekends.
What's your biggest personal beauty challenge? My hair!! It's constantly in a state of change. I've been trying to grow it out for about three years but keep getting bad haircuts and having to start over. It doesn't help that my hair looks pretty terrible when I let it air-dry!
When do you feel the most beautiful? I actually feel the most beautiful when I don't have a stitch of makeup on and am just ME.
This is a question we ask everyone at LATHER: Tell us one thing about yourself that most people don't know. I have a huge collection of Barbies from when I was a kid. Seriously, two huge boxes in my mom's house are filled to the brim with Barbies I'm saving for my daughters!
Now, let's play LATHER's "Which would you rather?" Would you rather:
- Go without showering for a week but never leave the house, or go without makeup for a week but appear in public every day? Go without makeup for a week.
- Have great skin and bad hair, or bad hair and great skin? Bad hair and great skin.
- Have crows' feet or turkey neck? Crow's feet.
- Never wear lipstick/gloss again, or never wear jeans again? Never wear jeans again.
- Give up professional brow grooming or professional manicures? Give up professional manicures.
And thank you, Jamie!
